The third World Golf Championship of 2014 is about to go under way today at the Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio.
Just two weeks after his first Open victory, Rory Mcilroy tees up again has he looks for back to back victories. He ran away with the Open title leading by six shots going into the final round and managing to hold on to win by two clear shots from his closest rivals. With all eyes on him this week he plans not to disappoint. There is no surprise he is favourite to win outright this week at 8/1.
Even after missing half of the 2014 season, the former world number 1 Tiger Woods is 10/1 odds on to retain his Bridgestone Invitational title and win it for a record ninth time. Very few backed Tiger to do well at the Open and most didn’t believe he would even make the cut. Although not everything went to plan I still believe there is a lot more to come from the 14 time major winner and this week couldn’t be a better place to start.
12 is the magic number this week with the average winning score being 12 under-par. Tiger Woods holds the record for the lowest winning score at 21 under-par in his 2000 victory here at Firestone. Low scores are guaranteed this week especially with the form that most players are going into the tournament with. A few more to watch out are Rickie Fowler after his impressive 2014 Major statistics and Charl Schwartzel who has finished inside the top 12 six times already this season.
